Abstract

An integral equation for the number of births in unit time in a model for populations with age structure is considered. The equation can sometimes be transformed into a differential-difference equation. It is solved explicitly under various assumptions for the initial age distribution, which can depend on a constant $T$. The case when $T$ is a random variable is also treated.
